This is my second round of growing my own herbs. I had always seen ingredients for fresh herbs, but living in a very small town, I rarely ever had the chance to use them. Buying them in our small grocery store was never an option. Thank you for making my recipes take on a whole new nuance!
I love basil and the plants last a LONG time and taste great. In addition to use with eggs in the am and veggies in the pm, this herb pack is useful for beverages when you have guests. Add crushed mint or basil to lime water with fresh ginger slices and this is so good. Alcoholic beverages to use are vodka or rum.
I must confess that I was very skeptical whether or not the Aerogrow with the Herb kit would work; herbs grown in water?! (I received it as a Christmas gift.) Well, I have been pleasantly surprised; the herbs have been growing now for six months. I have used them in the many tomato products that we have canned including tomato sauce and spaghetti sauce. An added bonus continues to be the beauty of the Aerogrow system as it continues to grow the herbs as it sits on a table in my dining/den. It also continues to be a conversation piece with all visitors. ...I am suggesting that my daughter-in-law and son give me another one this Christmas.
This product is great because it has so many options. We have been able to mix and match it with some of out other kits and have something that can replace immediately if a pod doesn't sprout. The only problem is that one or two of the replacements didn't sprout either, but as always customer service is awesome at replacing any part or whole that goes wrong.
I love the variety and the flexibility of the Herb Chef Pack. There are so many different herbs and so many things you can do, it is wonderful. The only downfall I can see is that the basils grow so fast while some things, like the sage, are slow to sprout. So, it's hard not to worry about the slow growers when the other plants are taking off!

In Michigan, we have very long, very cold winters during which we cannot grow the fresh herbs I love so much. The AeroGarden made it summer in my kitchen even when the snow was piling up outside. The herbs grow full and quickly and added fabulous fresh flavor to my food all winter long!
I learned very quickly the importance of following growing directions. We have well water which I used, at first. When the herbs grew, but only slowly, I switched to distilled water and they took off! I harvested for 7 months (I planted before Christmas las year) until my summer herb garden was ready to harvest. Although I still had herbs left in my AeroGarden, I replanted it with the Cascading Petunias and now my kitchen is filled with glorious flowers.
My only comment is that none of the herb seed kits contain the combination of herbs that I use most often: parsley (I'd prefer flat leaf parsley to the curley parsley included in the pack), sage, rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano, chives, and possibly dill. Now my true confession. I know the directions recommend NOT mixing herbs from different seed kits together in the same AeroGarden because the nutrients may differ, but because these are the herbs I use most often, I mixed herbs from two different seed kits to come up with combination I wanted. They all grew together beautifully! Unfortunately, it meant paying for two different herb seed kits to get the combination I desire. Maybe you could consider allowing us to order custom seed kits?
I am 6 weeks into my second Aerogarden herb season. It is so enjoyable to me to be able to snip fresh herbs to add to my recipes. I just recently received the Herb n Serve and Aerogarden recipe books. I find myself experimenting with herb butters and salad dressings. This encourages me to eat more fresh salads.
On the con side- my first season the cilantro never even sprouted. This season, the savory is growing poorly. The genovese basil only had one seed to sprout, although it still is a heavy producer.
I did not realize there were so many types of Basil. I love it
I love having the option of selecting the herbs that I want to grow out of this variety pack. It's a great price for two seasons of herbs, with lots of versatility and choices. The herbs do grow quickly, and you have to stay on top of it with frequent harvests, but it is worth it. I dry the excess on a pan in the oven on low heat, then package them for later use. Nothing is more impressive than having guests help you harvest herbs for their salads. Our family and friends are fascinated by the gardens, and being able to touch the herbs themselves. And the taste is exceptional. There's simply no comparison between this or a store bought herb. My son is a fine dining chef and adores the herb gardens (a future Christmas gift). Give one to mom's on Mother's Day, or a birthday. They make great gifts.
This is the 2nd planting for me and I absolutely love the beauty and taste, not to mention how easy it is to grow. The directions are awesome - so easy to follow.
Indoor gardening is the best way to grow. No mess, no dirt, no bugs, just grow and enjoy fresh herbs. Better than grocery store bought. I like the variety with the herb chef pack and can't wait to try other packs.
