I bought this a while after my first garden finished growing, and I used it to grow some flowers with some seeds that were given to me by a friend. They were the tiniest seeds!! But I followed directions that were included and they started sprouting after about a week. It was mostly leaves for a while, but after about 3 weeks these cute little flowers started to pop up. It's so simple because you only have to trim them and throw in the small nutrient tablets every so often (and remember to refill the water! XD) The flowers lasted a few months, which is a long time for me! Most store bought flowers never last more than a week for me, so having them around that long was really nice! This kit is really easy to use, most of the other required materials were all laying around the house.

great flexability
By Chef JoeVerified Purchaser from Troy, In. on 12/10/2008

After many unsuccessful attempts to grow cilantro from the South of The Border seed kit, I purchased my own coriander seed and attempted to get them to germinate using a moist paper towel.(a suggestion from one of Aerogrow's Customer Service Reps) Low and behold, I was able to germinate a number of plants.

So I frantically ordered the Master Gardener Deluxe Kit and have been overjoyed to observe healthy cilantro plants growing from the pods.

I soon will have more cilantro than I will know what to do with, so on to freezing in an ice cube tray.

The Master Gardener Deluxe Kit has given me the freedom to pick and choose the plants I wish to grow and utilize in my gourmet cooking. I am a professional chef and now have the freedom to grow just the herbs I need in my cooking without having to fool with the superfluous plants that come with the seed pod kits, some of which are of little use in gourmet cooking.

You've hit a home run again, Aerogrow, with the Master Gardener Deluxe Kit. Keep up the good work.

All in all, a good product
By GardenMuseVerified Purchaser from Charlotte, NC on 11/14/2008
Pros:
Adds value, Allows variety of plants, Starts cuttings and seeds
Best Uses:
Small Kitchens
Describe Yourself:
Avid Cook
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The master gardener kit is great for growing your own varieties of plants in the Aerogarden. There are so many varieties of flowers, herbs, salad greens, vegetables, etc. that it's great to be able to pick your own.

It's also great for starting plants from cuttings. When I had to prune my tomatoes in my first Pro100, I used the Master Gardener kit to root the tomato cuttings, then used the fertilizer in the Master Gardener kit to grow the tomatoes. All in all, I'm pleased with the product.

If you are starting your plants to transplant outside, I would use the seed starting tray instead - you produce far more seedlings in one shot.

This pack came with our fourth Aerogarden. You can use the master gardener series to grow varieties of herbs and vegetables following the basic guidelines in the instructions. We have one garden with compact heirloom tomatoes started. We saved seeds from the jalapeno peppers in the pepper kit and plan an all-jalapeno garden. We are experimenting with small eggplants and baby summer squash in another garden. This isn't possible with an outdoor garden in Alaska, and other indoor tomatoes haven't worked this well.

This is great for growing any seeds you might want. Living in Florida makes year-round planting great but we really do have seasons (of sorts) and seasonal plantings are so much easier this way. No worries about birds, or lack of water inhibiting the germination; just plant and wait a few days.

I cook a lot and I loved the idea of growing my own fresh herbs and greens in the winter when the ones in the grocery stores had no taste.
The only cons that I have had in using my aerogarden are the dead bugs on the surface that fly around the light at night. It's not really a problem I just sweep them off with a wet paper towel. So if this is my only problem I don't have much of a problem at all. Thanks for a great product.

I love this product and I promise you will too. I went back and forth for weeks on wheather or not to sew my own seeds with the master gardner kit or to go ahead and buy another herb kit. I decided to go with the master gardner kit and am very pleased with the results. I found organic seeds at [@] I know crazy, right? Trust me it's so easy, and you can find good seeds anywhere. I love that I can grow a whole row basil, and a whole row of mint in one harvest. One pack of seeds will last you atleast 3 harvest. Well worth it!!

I was surprised that the seeds sprouted in less than 24 hours. I was showing m garden to a friend, who had an idea. Without telling me, he slipped a seed into one of the pods. Within 3 days, there was another plant growing. We laughed, but decided that the AeroGarden was too small for what he had in mind. We was surprised to see the AeroGarden on the cover of high times, and delighted to read the story of a budding herb garden. My friend when and purchased his own garden, as did a few of his friends.

Great tool for gardeners

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love this product. I am an avid gardener in the foothills of Colorado where we have a very short growing season. This kit provides me an easy way to get all of my starts going early in the season. My only regret is that I am unable to purchase the grow sponges independently of the kit. I reuse the sponges as many times as I can, and have tried other sponges with no great success. [...] I am hoping that by writing this review you will no longer continue to ignore this issue--it's a flaw in your system. I know that there are many people out there that feel the same as I do as I have come across several sites on the web where people are attempting to share information regarding this problem. All of the other items in the master gardeners kit outlast the sponges (I even reuse the labels), and I do not participate in our throw away society--you shouldn't either. I understand retailing and creating a need for your product (I am a small business owner myself) however, we all have a greater respect and appreciation for companies that protect our planet and that do not encourage customers to throw out a product while it is still perfectly useful. Please be a responsible company and fix this problem. This is a five star product if you fix this problem!

AeroGrow Response:Just wanted to inform you that you are in fact able to purchase grow sponges independent of the Master Gardener Kit. Please check the Accessories section of our website to order replacement grow sponges.

I grew Johnny Jump-Ups in my first garden. It was so much fun, and I was able to grow flowers that don't thrive in South Florida's brutal heat. Also, it couldn't have been easier ... all I had to do was add water and the tablets every two weeks, plus trim them back. They cascaded over the back and sides of the garden, and had constant blooms. I enjoyed the variety. The flowers of each plant had different colors and patterns. They were just lovely! Now I've purchased a second AeroGarden and am planning to grow miniature carnations and pink gazanias. We sent an AeroGarden to my sister-in-law, and she's growing the Gourmet Herb Kit.

I like to use fresh herbs when I cook. I started my Aerogarden with the Gourmet Herb seed pack. The herbs lasted for over 6 months. In fact, I was able to replant my basil in a pot and still use it! Although I liked the seed packs that was offered, none had all the herbs I wanted so I tried the Master Gardener Deluxe and I could choose all my favorite herbs! It was as easy to use as the pre-packaged seeds and the results happened just as quickly! I'm ready to get some additional Aerogardens so I can try to grow peppers and tomatoes and lettuce!

one problem is the labels/slotted covers will NOT stay on the basket. Ironed on initially as in the directions, but came off with dome. Glued down with Elmers, and still came off with dome. I hot glued 2 of them and they STILL came off. odd. From experience if you remove those you do get mold/mildew problems in the resevoir.
otherwise I LOVE my aerogrow and wish I had a wall of them. one day I will.

I just down right love it. with the cost of food keep going up and gas. I can grow my own veggie in side my home. I am growing lettuce and spinch right now in my Aero. It easy and come with every thing u need you grow your own veggie or what ever. Just can't grow lettuce out side due to the high heat. And out side I have tomatos, eggplant, onions and carrots growning. Next I am growing hot pepers in my Aero. making salas for x-mas gifts this year. Only thing you have to keep in mind is the hight of want ever you are trying to grow. I only have 12" head space. I am planning on buy the higher light thinging that Aero carries. that way I have more choices and what I can grow. All I can add is have fun and enjoy.

My children bought me the Aerogarden for Christmas over a year ago. It came with the Garden herbs. I was amazed at how fast the seeds grew and the kind of plants that came out. We had so much basil that we were giving it away to our friends. This year my husband planted his own seeds and they are doing great.

We have two aerogrow gardens. We stagger our planting schedules so we constantly have new harvests nearly every week. One of the best things about the aerogrow system is that you can go away for a weekend and not have to worry about the plants. And when you get back, boy will you be surprised by how much growth has taken place while you've been away.

My first Master Gardener Kit came with my Aerogarden. The kit includes all the familiar items in the seed kits, except of course the seeds! After I planted and harvested the seed kits that came with my gardens, I used the kit in one of the gardens to plant collard greens! I wasn't sure if they were going to grow, but I should have known better. They grew like weeds, and I harvested from them three times. Naturally being greens a whole lot cooks down to enough for a serving or two.

I started herbs in the other garden. I did cilantro, basil, parsley, lemon balm, and mint. They all did well but the cilantro and parsley was amazing. I had to start clipping and sharing because I had so much of it. For my second season of using the Master Gardener Kit, I started my own salad kit using seeds I picked up at the nursery.

Since the collard greens did so well, I'm going to experiment and see if I can get a crop of baby bok choy going for the next growing season! Wish me luck!
